Umm, we had the Annual BCG holiday for the whole week starting 21st Oct. and I took the chance to go back home, i.e. Patna, despite my inherent fear of having to face a tirade of marriage issues courtesy mom and dad dearest :D. Hehe, and so went I did, and coincidentally it happened to be the time for Chatt, the annual sun-worship festival, and I noticed stuff which got my crazy brain run bonkers.
In Chatt, quite aged women like my Naniji goto River ghats at 3 AM and stand in cold water facing the horizon for the sun-god to give darshans. Also, I saw a lady dragging herself on her knees on this gravelled road to the temple and it was as gory as they show in movies. Now, my question is unlike the "bell-tingling-god-vardaan-granting" jig in the movies, what if, none of it really mattered ? What, if god gave shit about all of this ? Last tuesday I saw at 3 AM, people walking 10s of kms. to be at the SiddhiVinayak temple, and I was dumbstruck [Well, I also saw loads of peepz milling outside SRK's home wishing to bid him happy budday, but thankfully this God does care about his fans :-)]. Yeah, I understand, there is a need to connect to the inner sanctum, that spring of life. But, to what extent ? When do you stop mere connection, and move into overdrive ? And wasn't the biggest service to God supposed to be service to your fellow humans, the 1 roti you fed everyday to that one hungry soul ? What if, all this time that we spend in connecting to Mr. X (I dunno the name, you see !), all those bloodied knees, all that sodden, cold-benumbed legs were put to 10% of their misery and used to help humanity which is slowly losing its voice to the overarching darkness which is filling all our hearts, temme does it really matter if you gave away a rupee on every signal you stopped enroute to your home ? Food for thought maybe...
Take care
