Heylo !

I am back for the second time in two weeks *distinct improvement on my track record, I suppose :)*. But, pleasantaries apart, I watched Kabul Express yesterday, and for once, whatever the newspapers might have told you, this movie is worth a watch. The director Kabir Khan said it was based on his own true story, and it shows, this is a movie made purely from the heart, no frills attached, *except mebbe John A for his star presence :)*.Lemme use a different format this time, since this is a movie of many parts pierced together with the imagery of a beautiful land gone horribly awry at the hands of The Man. So, what really helps the movie chuff along ?

1. Arshad Warsi, this guy has all the beeeg lines in the movie, and it shows why has he been entrusted with them, with his amazing comic timing, he is the truffle, icing and all :).

2. The brilliant cinematography, which brings to life the beauty and the havoc of Afghanistan in no small measure, making your heart ache at how we have defaced Nature's pristine art.

3. The direction, the way the story is never waylaid in the face of humongous issues, how the director manages to keep it focussed between the most hopscotch of backdrops if there ever was one.

4. And above all, once more the subtle ironies. Consider this, Afghanis fighting a Pakistani Army Talib soldier with Russian-made AK-47s and American superscope binoculars, it doesn't get more ironical than this, two countries caught between the mesh of two superpowers who thought, they had the correct plot for controlling the world, while one wilted away, the other continues to destory people with its terrorist-blood fangled teeth.

Kabul Express is a story of irony, of primeveal instincts of survival, and love :), and you walk out of the theatre happy due to the comedy woven in, but with a dull thud in your heart at the misery of human race and also the realization how lucky we are to be Indians, and I hope it stays that way :).

Ta ta-Birla :)
